2010:  Reorganization

v January 2010 On Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7 p.m. Suquamish Olalla Neighbors (S.O.N.) and The Suquamish Tribe presented a free public screening of the award-winning, New Zealand film “Whale Rider” in the House of Awakened Culture, the new community house in downtown Suquamish. Discussion followed led by Sheila Lyon. This was our first community movie night and with success hoped to schedule more. Over 90 attended.

     Our second Movie Night was held Friday, April 9 at 7 pm at the "House of Awakened Culture. “Expiration Date” was filmed in the Seattle area, and the director Rick Stevenson was there for a Q&A after the screening. This movie drew smaller numbers.

v April, 2010 – SON core members met Sunday, April 11, 2010 and made a change to our meeting schedule. We are switching to quarterly meeting potlucks.  This was our first Skype meeting so all could be included.  Ted George, Port Gamble S'Klallam Elder and Karen Platt will remain as Co-chairs.   Frances Malone, Treasurer.  Arlis Stewart and Mary Ann Dow, Email, Web Site, Communications

v May 2010 – The Suquamish Tribe honored Frances Malone, current Treasurer and former Co-chair of Suquamish Olalla Neighbors, at this year’s Time To Gather, on May 14, 2010. She was honored not just for her contribution to the Museum Building Fund but also for her work as a community volunteer and member of the Suquamish Foundation.

v July, 2010 ~ Inter-tribal Canoe Journey Community Potluck  Suquamish Olalla Neighbors helped host 2010 Tribal Canoe Journey visitors at a community potluck dinner on Sunday, July 11th. These potluck dinners have become widely known and especially popular among the tribal canoe families. We received a warm thank you from Leonard Forsman, Suquamish Tribal Chairman.

v October 2010 Suquamish Olalla Neighbor's 9th annual potluck took place on October 17 at the House of Awakened Culture.  This year SON honored Tina Jackson who is the Cultural Activities Coordinator for the Tribe, Morrie Black Eagle
who is the Deputy Executive Director, Jan and Doug Hall of Suquamish and the Suquamish Garden Club.
