Add
me to the Old Man House Park email list.
Early this year, the Suquamish Tribe and Suquamish Olalla
Neighbors launched a campaign encouraging letters, telephone
calls and email from individuals and organizations.
Thanks to everyone who
wrote, emailed, or phoned on behalf of returning Old Man House Park to the Suquamish people. We prepared a binder, including your letters and background information on the park and the management plan, and delivered it to the Parks Commission on January 22.
It was an impressive statement. In February, the Bremerton
Sun published an opinion article summarizing our efforts.
The state Parks and Recreation Commission staff plan to hold one or more
meetings to gain further input. We hope to have large numbers in attendance. Please sign up to be on our
email
list, and we will keep you informed.
The commission will have their formal meeting to decide on the park on August 12 in Port Angeles. It is important that we have a large number in
attendance there as well. We will organize car pools when it gets closer. Again, sign up for our email list to be kept informed.
It is crucial that the State of Washington
continues to hear that there is broad and deep support for returning Old Man House
Park to tribal ownership and management.
