“While living in Hawaii in the 60s and 70s when we were younger,

I was fortunate to hear Keola and his brother Kapono play and sing when they were young.

In Bellingham in the 90s, I attended a concert by R. Carlos Nakai, where

he left us with our spirits soaring and our tears falling.

Don't miss this one!!!  -  Mary Ann Dow, SON member

“I oversaw dormitory life at Kamehameha Schools.

There, I couldn’t get Keola to study as he preferred to play guitar,

which his mom knew, and was sent to boarding school without a guitar.

He’d bug me for my guitar.  I gave up geting him to study, passed him my 1937 Martin D18,

and chided ‘at least get good with the guitar’.

Today, he is oooooooooo so good.”  - Herb Kai,

Event organizer and Suquamish Foundation trustee
