A big thank you to all who joined us for the 4th Annual Potluck & Community Celebration. We filled the room with good friends, good times and good food. And we added several new members to our growing community.
Elder Ted George, Honorary Co-chair opened our event with a blessing. He and
David McMullen, our new Co-chair welcomed and acknowledged our honored guests and dignitaries. David gave the review of our past year.
Frances Malone, our new Vice-chair spoke about "Why we are here".
Presentations were made by Ted and David to Bennie Armstrong, outgoing Suquamish Tribal Council Chair,
Sarah van Gelder, outgoing Suquamish Olalla Neighbors Co-chair (Sarah is remaining very active as a Co-chair Emeritus) and
Fred Hoefler, outgoing Vice-chair.
Ted surprised Virginia Cowling with a special gift to honor her long standing contributions to our community and the Suquamish Tribe.
Mary Ann Dow presented Senji Kanaeda and Gilberto Perez of the Nipponzan Mychoji Buddhist Temple of Bainbridge Island with a certificate of appreciation and a donation to recognize their work in community healing and peace.
We can't thank enough Leonard Forsman, newly elected Suquamish Tribal Council Chair for the outstanding program. We were shown two power point presentations.
2004 Tribal Journeys: A review of the Suquamish Tribe's journey to Chemanius,
B.C. narrated by Leonard with enjoyable comments by Bennie Armstrong and
150th Anniversary of the Stevens Treaties: A brief discussion from a Tribal perspective narrated by Leonard. We appreciate the opportunity to add to our knowledge and understanding. |
